The ambitions of the Portuguese country traders involved in this market were greather than VOC firstimagined. The Company learnt that on account of an internal power struggle, Sultan Dipati Anom was challenged by his nephews, Sultan Ratu's two sons, Suria Angsa and Suria Negara, and Portuguese aid had been enlisted by the insurgents against Sultan Dipati Anom.
