Dalam kroniknya, ''Annales omnium temporum'' (1490-1492), [[Pietro Ranzano]] meriwayatkan bahwa Yohanes Hunyadi lazim disapa dengan panggilan "Ianco"' (''Ioanne Huniate, Ianco vulgo cognominator''). Dalam kronik-kronik yang ditulis oleh para pujangga [[Yunani Bizantium]] (seperti [[George Sphrantzes]] dan [[Laonikos Kalkokondiles]]) ia disebut dengan nama ''Ianco/Iango'', ''Iancou/Iangou'', ''Iancos/Iangos'', ''Iancoula/Iangoula'', ''Gianco/Giango'', dan ''Ghiangou''.<ref>Tiberiu Ciobanu.
