==Pengembangan ==
Dikembangkan dari badan dasar Mi-8, Mi-17 dipasangi dengan mesin TV3-117MT yang lebih besar, rotor, dan transmisi yang dikmbangkan untuk [[Mil Mi-14|Mi-14]], bersama dengan pengembangan badan pesawat untuk muatan lebih berat. Mesin Opsional untuk kondisi "panas dan tinggi" adalah mesin Isotov TV3-117VM berdaya 1545kW (2070 shp). Export baru baru ini ke [[China]] dan [[Venezuela]] untuk penggunaan di pegunungan tinggi mesin baru versi VK-2500 dilengkapi dengan kontrol [[FADEC]].
Penamaan Mi-17 adalah untuk eksport; Angkatan bersenjata Rusia emmanggilnya Mi-8MT.
