[[Sikh gurus|Guru pertama]] [[Sikhisme]], [[Guru Nanak]], mendirikan Kartarpur pada tahun 1504 M di tepi kanan [[Sungai Ravi]] dan mendirikan komune Sikh pertama di sana. Setelah kematiannya pada tahun 1539, umat Hindu dan Muslim sama-sama mengklaimnya sebagai milik mereka dan membangun mausoleum-mausoleum untuk memperingatinya dengan sebuah tembok bersama di antara mereka. Perubahan aliran Sungai Ravi akhirnya menghanyutkan mausoleum-mausoleum tersebut.
