Pada 19 Februari 2007, Bombardier meluncurkan ''CRJ1000'', sebelumnya didesain sebagai CRJ900X, perpanjangan dari CRJ900, dengan tempat duduk hingga 100 kursi. CRJ1000 sukses menyelesaikan penerbangan perdana tahun 2008. Namun, Bombardier menyatakan bahwa penerbangan komersial pertama ditunda hingga kuartal pertama 2010. tanggal 14 Juni 2009 Bombardier mengumumkan pesanan pasti untuk 15 pesawat CRJ1000 NextGen yang dilakukan oleh [[Air Nostrum]], untuk total 35 pesawat CRJ1000 NextGen.
