Helikopter ini menggunakan sistem kendali otonom selama penerbangan pendeknya. Beberapa hari kemudian, pada 22 April 2021 pukul 09.33 UTC (16.33 WIB), Ingenuity berhasil melakukan penerbangan keduanya selama 51,9 detik. Ia terbang secara tegak setinggi lima meter dan mengambang sejenak pada ketinggian itu. Ia lalu bergerak miring lima derajat untuk membuat rotornya menggerakkan helikopter dua meter ke samping, lalu berhenti, mengambang di tempat, dan berputar untuk mengarahkan kameranya ke arah lain. Ingenuity lalu kembali ke tengah landasan.
