Teknologi yang disematkan pada EMU-320 berasal dari kereta uji coba HEMU-430X yang sebelumnya telah diuji oleh Korail. Desain EMU-320 akan sama dengan EMU-250 namun dengan jumlah gerbong yang lebih banyak (8 gerbong).<ref name="korailsurvey" /><ref name="naverkorailsurvey" />.
