Paus Yohanes Paulus II memiliki masa tugas ketiga terlama dalam sejarah, setelah [[Paus Pius IX]] dan [[Santo Petrus]]. Ia meninggal pada tanggal 2 April 2005, dan dikebumikan di pemakaman di bawah [[Basilika Santo Petrus]]. Mukjizat kedua disetujui pada tanggal 2 Juli 2013, dan dikonfirmasi oleh [[Paus Fransiskus]] dua hari kemudian.
