Gerbong ini adalah gerbong datar bersekat yang telah diperkuat oleh rangka balok-I membujur, sering dalam bentuk rangka [[Rangka atap|Vierendeel]], kadang-kadang diperkuat oleh rangka [[diagonal]]. Kayu yang diangkut haruslah simetris, yaitu setengah beban berada di salah satu sisi rangka, sedangkan setengahnya lagi berada di rangka yang lainnya. Hal ini bertujuan agar beban tidak berat sebelah saat diangkut.
