The genus name of ''[[Clitoria]]'' is a direct translation from the local name of these plant in the [[Ternate language]]; which called as {{lang|tft|Telang}}, literally means "[[clitoris]]" due to its shape that resembles the shape of human [[Vulva|female genitals]].
