Sadako juga didasarkan pada kehidupan paranormal awal abad ke-20 Sadako Takahashi, seorang praktisi ''nensha'', yaitu seni memproyeksikan gambar ke dalam film hanya dengan pikiran. Pada tahun 1931 Takahashi dipelajari oleh psikolog Tomokichi Fukurai untuk bukunya, ''Clairvoyance and Thoughtography''.
