Pameran ini menarik 96.000 orang pengunjung dan institut Derby mendapatkan dasar posisi keuangan yang baik.<ref name=chadwick>{{en}} {{cite journal|last=Chadwick|first=A.F.|title=The Derby Mechanics' Institute 1825-1880|journal=The Vocational Aspect of Education|date=Autumn|year=1975|volume=XXVII|issue=68|pages=10-105|url=http://pdfserve.informaworld.com/362573__771136116.pdf|accessdate=4 June 2011}}</ref>

The Derby exhibition was admired by the mechanics institutes in nearby Leicester and Nottingham and both organised similar exhibitions the following year. They also were able to charter a train on the newly opened railway to carry their members on a railway excursion.<ref name=barton>{{cite web|last=Barton|first=Susan|title=The Mechanics Institutes: Pioneers of Leisure and Excursion Travel|url=http://www.le.ac.uk/lahs/downloads/BartonvolumeLXVII-6sm.pdf|publisher=Leicester.ac.uk|accessdate=4 June 2011}}</ref>
