▲The first painting (1774) was made by Wright while in Rome. After its completion he had to import it back into Britain; [[Llewellyn Jewitt]] records that he nearly imported it free of tax but a late objection obliged him to pay import tax. Lukisan ini kemudian dibuat menjadi cetak ukiran titik-titik (''stipple engraving'') oleh [[Thomas Ryder]] tahun 1779 dan dipublikasikan oleh [[John Boydell]] dan [[Josiah Boydell]] pada tahun 1786.<ref name=tate /> Namun sebuah cetak ukiran ''mezzotint'' dibuat lebih awal oleh [[John Raphael Smith]] tahun 1778 atas penugasan [[John Milnes]] setelah ia membeli lukisan tersebut di pameran [[Royal Academy]].
