Ailee lahir di [[Denver]], [[Colorado]] pada tanggal 30 Mei 1989 dan dibesarkan di [[New Jersey]]. Ia sekolah di Scotch Plains Fanwood High School dan Pace University dimana ia mempelajari peradilan pidana, namun harus mengambil cuti untuk mengejar karir musiknya.<ref name="YMC Entertainment Official Website"/> Ia mulai dikenal sejak ia membuat saluran [[YouTube]] sendiri bernama "aileemusic".
