Ryeowook ditemukan melalui CMB Youth ChinChin Festival pada 2004 dan menandatangani kontrak dengan SM Entertainment segera setelah juri terkesan dengan bakat bernyanyinya. Ia dilatih di bidang menyanyi, menari, dan akting, Ryeowook ditempatkan upaya tertentu ke dalam pelatihan vokal dan komposisi musik. Ia bermain piano, dan bermain iringan untuk sesama anggota selama tahap-tahap solo mereka pada konser mereka.
Sebelum Kyuhyun ditambahkan pada tahun 2006, Ryeowook adalah orang terakhir yang bergabung Super Junior beberapa minggu sebelum debut resmi mereka pada tahun 2005. Pada Maret 2006, SM Entertainment mulai untuk merekrut anggota baru untuk generasi Super Junior selanjutnya. Pada Juni 2012, Ryeowook kembali pada bandmate Super Junior untuk album studio keenam mereka, ''[[Sexy, Free & Single]]'' yang dirilis 4 Juli. Pada 23 Juni gambar teaser Ryeowook dirilis dengan dirinya dengan rambut berwarna merah dan bulu.
