Guns N' Roses (GNR) adalah kelompok musik hard rock dari Amerika Serikat yang berdiri pada tahun 1984 dan resmi pada tahun 1985 . Band ini sangat top di era 80-an dan 90-an ,Mereka pertama melejit lewat album 1987 Appetite for Destruction Dengan hits Sweet Child O'Mine , Don't Cry (1987) , Paradise City , dan Welcome To The Jungle dan kemudian merilis album akustik yang di beri nama G N' R Lies dengan hits manis Patience dan kemudian menerbitkan dua album berbarengan Use Your Illusion I dan Use Your Illusion II.Dengan personel yang paling terkenal Axl Rose - lead vocal,piano (1985-sekarang), Slash - lead guitar (1985-1996), Izzy Stradlin - rhythm guitar (1985-1991), Duff McKagan - bass (1985-1998), Steven Adler - drums (1985-1990), Matt Sorum - drums (1990-1997), Gilby Clarke - rhythm guitar (1991-1994) dan Dizzy Reed - keyboards,piano (1990-sekarang).

Guns N Roses menjadi band rock terbesar di dunia pada tahun 1991-1992 saat double album mereka “Use Your Illusion” meledak di pasaran. Dengan formasinya saat itu Axl Rose (vocal),Slash (gitar),Izzy Stradlin (gitar), Duff McKagan (Bass), Dizzy Reed (Keyboard), dan Matt Sorum (Drum). Pada tengah malam 17 September 1991 GNR menjadi band terhebat di dunia. Ratusan toko dibuka sampai pagi untuk menjual album Appetite For Destruction dan Use Your Illusion yang terdiri dari dua album. Untuk pertama kalinya dalam sejarah, kedua album Use Your Illusion itu berada di peringkat pertama dan kedua album terlaris versi Billboard di AS.
Namun kebesaran dan kesuksesan GNR pada masa itu tidak serta merta menjadikan personel mereka lebih solid. Yang terjadi adalah ketika Izzy Stradlin secara mengejutkan mengundurkan diri dari GNR di pertengahan konser keliling dunia album Use Your Illusions (Use Your Illusion World Tours). Izzy digantikan oleh Gilby Clarke di pertengahan konser keliling dunia. Dapat dilihat pula dalam video klip “Don’t Cry”, di klip itu terselip gambar ketika salah seorang fans menempelkan sebuah tulisan di punggungnya “Where’s Izzy???” dan juga di video klip Live And Let Die di klip itu juga terselip poster yang bergambar Izzy Dan bertuliskan “Missing!!”. Atau kejadian lainnya saat menjelang konser di Tokyo, ada poster juga bertuliskan “Who’s Gilby??”(Gitaris yang menggantikan Izzy).Membuktikan bahwa fans GNR sangat kehilangan sosok Izzy.
Nasib GNR berubah pada tahun 1994. mereka ribut satu sama lain, sering masuk pusat rehabilitasi ketergantungan narkotika, dan album The Spaghetti Incident? Gagal di pasaran. Keretakan mereka dimulai dari sini.
Setelah itu mereka sempat berkumpul di sebuah studio di Los Angeles untuk merekam album baru yang rencananya dirilis tahun 1995. namun, tak lama kemudian mereka dihinggapi penyakit yang sudah biasa diderita band-band lainnya: kebosanan. Mereka sudah terlalu kaya sehingga mereka berpikir tidak perlu melakukan apapun.
Biografi
Hard Rock band asal Los Angeles, California, Amerika Serikat ini dibentuk pada bulan Maret 1985. Awalnya, band ini bernama Hollywood Rose, kemudian berubah nama menjadi Guns N' Roses yang diambil dari gabungan nama dua personel Hollywood Rose, Axl Rose dan Tracii Guns.
Pada awal karirnya, Guns N' Roses sempat bongkar pasang personel. Guns N' Roses baru berhasil mendapatkan formasi solid pada tur pertama mereka bertajuk "Hell Tour", yaitu; Axl Rose (vokal), Izzy Stradlin (rhythm guitar), Duff McKagan (bass), Slash (guitar), dan Steven Adler (drum). Guns N' Roses kemudian mengikat kontrak dengan Geffen Records. Setelah merilis EP (extendet Play) mereka bertajuk, Live ?!*@ Like a Suicide di tahun 1986, Guns N' Roses merilis album perdana Appetite for Destruction di tahun 1987. Album perdana ini langsung mendapat sambutan, selain menghasilkan no.1 hits single “Sweet Child O’ Mine”, Album ini juga membuahkan top ten hits yaitu “Welcome To The Jungle”, Paradise City, dan Night Train.
Sisi lain dari album ini adalah GNR mendapat gelar tak resmi sebagi band paling berbahaya lantaran prilaku personelnya yang mendapat sorotan negative dari media massa. Duff, Slash, Izzy dan Adler sering terlihat sedang "hight" baik di atas maupun diluar panggung konser. Prilaku ini pula yang menyebabkan banyak pihak menyebut Guns N' Roses sebagai band reinkarnasi The Rolling Stones.
Guns N' Roses merilis album kedua mereka G N' R Lies tahun 1988. "G N' R Lies" yang berisikan 4 lagu yang terdapat dalam EP (extendet Play), Live ?!*@ Like a Suicide tersebut menghasilkan hits ballads mereka “Patience” yang berhasil masuk posisi 4 Billboard Hot 100 serta "Move To The City” dan "One In The Million" yang mengundang kontroversi lantaran dalam syair lagu ini terdapat kata "niggers" dan "faggots". Akibat syair lagu ini pula, Axl Rose di tuding rasis dan homopobia.
Tahun 1990, Guns N' Roses kembali ke studio merekam album ketiga mereka yang fenomenal, “Use Your Illusion”. Dalam periode inilah, drummer Steven Adler terpaksa di pecat lantaran kecanduan cocain dan heroin. Sebelumnya, saat tengah rekaman lagu “Civil War” , Steven Adler sempat merepotkan personel band yang lain lantaran tidak mampu bermain drum dengan baik karena terlalu "high".
Posisi Steven Adler kemudian di gantikan Matt Sorum, dan di periode ini pula, keyboardist Dizzy Reed resmi menjadi full time member dari band ini. Setelah memecat manager, Alan Niven, dan menggantikannya dengan Doug Goldstein di tahun 1991, Guns N’ Roses merilis dua album sekaligus; Use Your Illusion I dan Use Your Illusion II pada 17 September 1991. Kedua album ini sukses, "Use Your Illusion I" berhasil masuk peringkat 2 dan "Use Your Illusion II" menempati posisi no.1 album di AS. Dari dua album ini lahir hits single antara lain "November Rain", "Don't Cry", "Estranged", "You Could Be Mine,”, "Civil War" dan Yesterday.
Seiring dengan dirilisnya dua album ini, Guns N' Roses juga merilis beberapa video musik termasuk "the most requested video on MTV"; "November Rain". Sukses dua album ini dilanjutkan dengan jadwal tur yang padat selama 28 bulan.
Perpecahan mulai meruncing di tubuh Guns N' Roses usai dirilisnya album kelima The Spaghetti Incident? di tahun 1993. Album yang berisikan lagu-lagu cover version ini terbilang gagal. Meski demikian, dua single dari album ini “Ain’t It Fun” dan “Since I Don’t Have You” cukup sukses.
Benih perpecahan makin mengkristal di antara personel Guns N' Roses, bankan mereka tidak dapat merampungkan lagu-lagu untuk album mereka berikutnya. Puncaknya, dua personel mereka Slash dan Duff McKagan memutuskan untuk hengkang. Axl Rose sendiri memilih memisahkan diri bandnya.
Meski didera kehancuran, Guns N' Roses bertekad untuk bertahan dengan hanya tertinggal Axl Roses sebagai satu-satunya personel asli band ini. Setelah sempat berganti-ganti personel, baru 5 tahun kemudian tepatnya di tahun 1999 Guns N’ Roses berhasil mengeluarkan lagu baru yaitu “Oh My God” yang juga menjadi soundtrack film End Of The Day.
“Oh My God” kemudian menjadi lagu pembuka album baru GNR Chinese Democracy yang baru bisa dirilis 9 tahun kemudian tepatnya di tahun 2008 lalu. Album ini pun tidak bisa mengangkat kembali nama Guns N' Roses.
