Samun laut
Sebuah privateer adalah orang pribadi atau kapal yang terlibat dalam perang maritim di bawah suatu komisi perang.[1] Komisi tersebut, yang juga dikenal sebagai surat marque, memberi wewenang kepada orang tersebut untuk melakukan segala bentuk permusuhan yang diperbolehkan di laut dengan penggunaan perang, termasuk menyerang kapal asing selama masa perang dan merebut mereka sebagai kapal rampasan.
