Didirikan pada 16 Oktober 1923, perusahaan ini didirikan oleh Walt Disney dan Roy Oliver Disney dengan nama Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio. Pusatnya terletak di Burbank, California.

Laba Disney pada 2004 adalah sebesar $30,8 miliar USD dan merupakan komponen Dow Jones Industrial Average. Perusahaan ini dikenal sebagai Walt Disney Productions, Ltd. sampai 6 Februari 1986 dan kemudian diubah menjadi namanya sekarang.

Sejarah

1923–1928: Pendiri dan era film bisu

Gedung di lingkungan Los Angeles Los Feliz yang merupakan rumah studio dari tahun 1923 hingga 1926.^[3]

Pada awal 1923, Kansas City, Missouri, animator Walt Disney membuat film pendek berjudul Alice's Wonderland, yang menampilkan aktris cilik Virginia Davis berinteraksi dengan karakter animasi . Setelah kebangkrutan pada tahun 1923 dari firma sebelumnya, Laugh-O-Gram Studio,^{[ChWDC 1]} Disney pindah ke Hollywood untuk bergabung dengan saudaranya, Roy O. Disney. Distributor film Margaret J. Winkler dari M.J.
