Mohammad Ali (lahir 3 Juni 1953) adalah Profesor di Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI). Namanya dikenal secara nasional, karena pernah menduduki jabatan Direktur Jenderal Pendidikan Islam, Kementerian Agama, Republik Indonesia periode 2007-2012, menjadi anggotan Badan Akreditasi Nasional Sekolah/Madrasah (2003-2008), dan menjadi penyaji makalah kunci (keynotes presenter) pada berbagai seminar dan konferensi nasional. Dalam organisasi profesi tingkat nasional, ia pernah menjadi anggota pengurus pusat Ikatan Sarjana Pendidikan Indonesia (ISPI) tahun 2000 hingga sekarang. Ia juga menjadi anggota Pembina Himpunan Pengembang Kurikulum Indonesia (HIPKIN) tahun 2014-sekarang.

Namanya juga dikenal secara internasional, karena kerap diundang untuk memresentasikan makalah kunci (keynotes presenter), kerap memresentasikan makalah pada berbagai konferensi dan seminar internasional di dalam dan di luar negeri, diundang untuk memberi kuliah umum (public lecture) di beberapa universitas di dalam maupun di luar negeri, dan pernah menjadi academic advisor dan external examiner disertasi mahasiswa program Doktor (Ph.D) di luar negeri. Selain itu, juga pernah memperoleh research award dan research grant dari beberapa lembaga internasional, melaksanakan beberapa penelitian atas biaya dari international funding agencies, dan melaksanakan research collaboration dengan beberapa universitas di beberapa negara.

Dalam organisasi profesi internasional, ia pernah menjadi anggota steering committee pada Asia-Pacific Network in International Education and Value Education (APNIEVE), sebuah UNESCO Affiliated organization (2005–2008) dan anggota committee member Future Education Forum of APEC (Asia Pacific Economic Community) Learning Community Builders - ALCoB (2005–2007). Sejak 2016 hingga saat ini menjadi Koordinator Promotion of Sustainability in Postgraduate Education and Research Network (ProSPER.Net) sekretariat UPI, yang merupakan networking sejumlah universitas ternama di Asia Pasifik dalam memromosikan program UNESCO, PBB Sustainable Development Education dan Sustainable Development Goals pada jenjang program Pascasarjana (Postgraduate).

Riwayat Hidup

Pendidikan

Mohammad Ali memperoleh gelar Sarjana Pendidikan (Drs) dari Fakultas Ilmu Pendidikan, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI), yang pada saat itu adalah Institut Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan (IKIP Bandung) tahun 1979. Selanjutnya, gelar Magister Pendidikan (M.Pd.) diperoleh dari Fakultas Pascsarjana IKIP Bandung pada tahun 1987 dan gelar Master of Arts (M.A.) berhasil diraih pada tahun 1990 dari University of Pittsburgh, di kota Pittsburgh, Amerika Serikat. Sementara itu, gelar Doktor diperoleh dari Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB) tahun 1999. Ia juga pernah mengikuti sejumlah short courses di dalam dan di luar negeri.

Karier

Karier Mohammad Ali dimulai sebagai staf pengajar IKIP Bandung tahun 1980. Tahun 2001, ia dikukuhkan sebagai Profesor dalam bidang Evaluasi dan Manajemen Program di Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, dan menyampaikan pidato pengukuhan berjudul: “Analisis Keefektifan Biaya dalam Manajemen dan Evaluasi Program Pengembangan Sumber Daya Manusia”. Semasa menjadi dosen di universitas tersebut, Mohammad Ali tercatat pernah menjabat Koordinator Lab. Microteaching Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (1992-1997), Ketua Lembaga Penelitian Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (2000–2004), dan Dekan Fakultas Ilmu Pendidikan, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia untuk periode 2004-2008. Namun, sebelum selesai menjalani tugas sebagai Dekan, ia diangkat oleh Presiden RI untuk menduduki jabatan sebagai Direktur Jenderal Pendidikan Islam, Kementerian Agama, Republik Indonesia, masa jabatan 2007–2012.

Aktivitas profesional lain

Dalam kapasitasnya sebagai seorang pakar, Mohammad Ali pernah menjadi konsultan pada Kementerian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan RI antaranya adalah Konsultan Junior Secondary School Expansion and Quality Improvement (1995–1997), Konsultan Decentralized Social Services Delivery (2000–2001) serta Konsultan Curriculum Evaluation (2000–2005).

Dalam forum internasional, saat ini ia menjadi Koordinator Promotion of Sustainability in Postgraduate Education and Research Networlk (ProSPER.Net) di UPI, yang merupakan networking sejumlah universitas ternama di Asia Pasifik dalam mempromosikan program UNESCO, PBB, Sustainable Development Education dan Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Ia juga dipercaya sebagai Academic Advisor sebuah Pusat Penelitian, China-Southeastern Asia Business Research Center, di Neusoft Institute Guangdong, China (2018-2020). Kehidupan Pribadi

Ia menikah dengan Dra. Hj. Sumiati yang berprofesi sebagai guru di SMAN 1 Lembang, Bandung Barat yang sejak bulan Agustus 2018 menjalani masa pensiun. Pasangan ini dikaruniai seorang putra dan empat orang putri (lima orang), yang saat ini semuanya sudah berkeluarga.

  1. Dr. Rian Ahmad Syathari, S.T.,M.Sc. yang menikah dengan dr. Reni Fahriani, Sp.A. dan dikarunia dua puteri dan satu putera, Keisa Fahira Syathari, Muhammad Raqilla Zidane Syathari, dan Maryam Syathari.
  2. drg. Rhabiah El Fithriyah, Sp.KGA. yang menikah dengan dr. Erchamzah, M.M.R.S. dan dikaruniai dua putera dan satu puteri, Daffa Nabil Elchamzah, Gathan Imtiyaz Elchamzah, dan Alisha Putri Elchamzah (meninggal dunia).
  3. dr. Fauziyah Hayati, Sp.M. yang menikah dengan dr. Teuku Aditia Kemal, Sp.O.T. dan dikaruniai seorang puteri, Cut Sarah Alena.
