Dalam taksonomi, Halobacteria (juga Halomebacteria) adalah kelas dari Euryarchaeota,[1] yang ditemukan dalam air jenuh atau hampir jenuh dengan garam. Halobacteria sekarang diakui sebagai arkea, bukan bakteri. Nama 'halobacteria' diberikan untuk kelompok organisme sebelum adanya domain Archaea disadari, dan tetap berlaku sesuai dengan aturan taksonomi[butuh rujukan]. Dalam konteks non-taksonomi, arkea halofilik disebut sebagai haloarchaea untuk membedakan mereka dari bakteri halofilik.
