Hong Sang-soo
Hong Sang-soo (lahir 25 Oktober 1961) adalah sutradara dan penulis skenario film berkebangsaan Korea Selatan. Namanya mulai dikenal oleh publik Korea Selatan sejak tahun 1996 ketika mengarahkan film The Day a Pig Fell into the Well (돼지가 우물에 빠진 날) dan The Power of Kangwon Province (강원도의 힘) pada tahun 1998. Hong Sang-soo merupakan penerima penghargaan Prix Un Certain Regard dari Festival Film Cannes tahun 2010 untuk karyanya, Hahaha.

Karier
Hong Sang-soo memulai kariernya di dunia film sejak menempuh pendidikan di Chung-Ang University Korea Selatan, sebelum pindah ke Amerika Serikat untuk meraih gelar sarjana dari California College of Arts and Crafts dan gelar masternya and dari School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Hong mengawali debut penyutradaraannya pada usia 35 tahun, dengan karya The Day a Pig Fell into the Well tahun 1996. Film ini endapatkan berbagai pujian dari kritikus film Korea Selatan, [1] apalagi memenangi beberapa penghargaan domestik, termasuk tiga kategori untuk ukuran sutradara baru.
Many of Hong's films have received critical acclaim for the director/screenwriter's portrayal and depictions of everyday human relationships. Although most of his works are not considered commercially successful, Hong is one of the most well-known Korean directors in the international film world, and his low budget arthouse films have screened in competition at the Cannes Film Festival,[2][3][4] the Berlin International Film Festival,[5] and other film festivals.
Karya lain yang tercatat menerima penghargaan atas kerja keras Hong antara lain Prix Un Certain Regard di Cannes Film Festival 2010 untuk film Hahaha,[6] the Silver Leopard Award for Best Director at the 2013 Locarno International Film Festival for Our Sunhi,[7][8] dan penghargaan tertinggi Golden Leopard pada Locarno International Film Festival 2015 untuk film Right Now, Wrong Then.[9][10][11][12]
Pada bulan Juni 2016 Hong dikabarkan memiliki hubungan dekat dengan aktris Kim Min-hee, yang juga tampil dalam film Right Now, Wrong Then.[13] [14]
