Carl Van Vechten
Carl Van Vechten (17 Juni 1880 – 21 Desember 1964) adalah seorang penulis dan fotografer artistik Amerik yang menjadi pelindung Renaisans Harlem dan eksekutor kesusastraan dari Gertrude Stein.[1]

Kehidupan dan karir
Lahir di Cedar Rapids, Iowa, ia merupakan anak bungsu dari pasangan Charles dan Ada Van Vechten.[2] Ia lulus dari Washington High School pada 1898,[3] dan kemudian University of Chicago[4] pada 1903. Pada 1906, ia pindah ke New York City. Ia diangkat menjadi asisten kritikus musik di The New York Times.[5] Peminatannya dalam opera membuatnya mengambil cuti dari surat kabar tersebut pada 1907, sehingga ia bisa berkunjung ke Eropa untuk mengeksplor opera.[1]
