Orang Indo dalam sejarah kolonial

Indo (kependekan dari orang Indo-Eropa) adalah orang Eurasia dari campuran keturunan Indonesia dan Eropa. Evolusi awal (pra kolonial) dari masyarakat Eurasia campuran ini di Hindia Timur mulai pada saat kedatangan para pedagang Portugis pada abad ke-16 dan dilanjutkan dengan kedatangan para pedagang Belanda (VOC) pada abad ke-17 dan ke-18.

Pada permulaan abad ke-19, kolonissasi resmi Hindia Timur mulai dan klaim teritorial [Vereenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie|VOC]] berkembang menjadi sebuah koloni yang sama sekali baru bernama Hindia Belanda. Komunitas Indo-Eropa pra kolonial yang ada sangat dilengkapi dengan orang Indo yang merupakan keturunan dari para pria Eropa yang menetap di Hindia Belanda.
