Marmot alpen (Marmota marmota) adalah sejenis spesies marmot yang ditemukan di ditemukan di daerah pegunungan di bagian tengah dan selatan Eropa.[2] Marmot alpen hidup di ketinggian antara 800 dan 3.200 meter di Alpen, Karpatia, Tatra, Pirenia, dan Apennini Utara di Italia. They were reintroduced with success in the Pyrenees in 1948, where the alpine marmot had disappeared at end of the Pleistocene epoch.[3] They are excellent diggers, able to penetrate soil that even a pickaxe would have difficulty with, and spend up to nine months per year in hibernation.[4]
