Pada 1 Februari 2022, anak laki-laki Maroko berusia 5 tahun bernama Rayan Oram (bahasa Arab: ريان أورام) jatuh ke dalam sumur kering sepanjang 32 meter di Ighran, Tamorot, Chefchaouen, Maroko.

While playing outside on 1 February 2022,[1] five-year-old Rayan Oram fell into a dry well in the village of Ighran in Chefchaouen Province, Morocco.[2] Rayan's father was busy working nearby, and had been repairing the well.[3][4] His family saw small footprints near the well, and heard his voice.[5] By use of a flashlight[1] and a phone camera they sent down, the family confirmed Rayan was within the well and informed the local authorities. Traditional methods of rescue failed, so provincial authorities of Chefchaouen were informed.[5]
The following day, volunteers tried to reach Rayan by going down the 32-meter (105 ft) well.[3] The well is 45 sentimeter (18 in) wide at the top and gets narrower as it goes down,[6] so direct rescue was impossible.[7] Despite this, it was confirmed that Rayan was still alive. Authorities brought heavy machinery and started digging on the side of the well. Hashtags including #SaveRayan and its Arabic equivalent (#أنقذوا_ريان) became trending in Morocco, Algeria and France, where a large Maghrebi diaspora lives. Water, food and oxygen were lowered down, as well as a camera to monitor the boy's condition.[5]
On 3 February, a camera was lowered into the well and it was discovered that while Rayan was suffering minor head injuries, he was conscious.[8] The rescue team continued digging on the side of the well; the plan was to dig vertically to the same level as Rayan, then start digging horizontally. They dug very carefully, stopping at times to ensure safety and avoid a cave-in. The official spokesperson for the Moroccan government Mustapha Baytas said that the situation was being closely monitored by the Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit and the Minister of Health, Khalid Aït Taleb.[5] A medical team, including an ambulance and a helicopter of the Royal Moroccan Gendarmerie, were dispatched to the scene.[1] Diggers reached Rayan's level on 4 February, and began the more delicate task of digging horizontally with hand tools and techniques to avoid vibrating the surrounding soil.[9] On 5 February, the fourth day since Rayan's fall, a rock blocking the tunnel caused a 3-hour delay to the rescue attempt.[9][10] Large pipes were put in place to secure the tunnel.[11] A chief rescuer stated that at this point it was not possible to determine Rayan's condition, and the BBC reported that officials were unsure if he was still alive.[8] Rayan died before he was reached by rescuers;[4] a royal statement made soon after his extraction announced his death,[12] and King Mohammed VI called Rayan's parents to give his condolences.[13]
