Tomy Yunus
Tomy Yunus Tomy Yunus (born in Belinyu, July 27th 1986) is the CEO and Co-Founder of Cakap. Tomy Yunus is an alumnus of Bina Nusantara University and Renmin University of China-Beijing. Currently he leads a startup company in the field of language education and technology (EdTech), Squline, which has now changed its name to Cakap.

Biografi
Tomy Yunus Tjen, After completing his studies in China, Tomy returned to Indonesia and together, Yohan Limerta, established Squline which later changed its name to Cakap. With the vision of becoming a leading upskilling and career-enhancement solution, Cakap has become one of reputable educational technology (EdTech) companies in Indonesia.
From the very beginning until Cakap finally was officially launched, Tomy and Cakap have made various achievements, including the Winner of Singtel Future Makers 2018, Evangelist Telkomsel The Nextdev Academy 2018, Indonesian Pavilion (Archipelageek) SXSW Austin Texas 2018, Indonesian Pavilion (Archipelageek) InnoVex Taiwan 2018, Indonesian Pavilion (Archipelageek) CeBIT Sydney 2018, and G Startup Worldwide GMIC Indonesia - The Global Mobile Internet Conference 2017. Cakap also managed to set a MURI record as the “First 2-Way Learning Application in Indonesia” in 2019.
In the midst of the ongoing pandemic since 2020, Cakap has experienced a significant increase in the number of students, surpassing sevenfold. This increase was successfully obtained by Cakap in the first quarter of 2021.
Along with growing interest and to answer the needs of the Indonesian people to improve their skills, Cakap expanded its business wings from providing foreign language courses to developing vocational courses and career development training.
In January 2022, Tomy was covered by Forbes magazine to share his story on building Cakap and turning it into an upskilling solution to improve the quality of life of Indonesian people. The following month, Cakap was appreciated by HolonIQ as one of the 50 most promising EdTech startups in Southeast Asia. Meanwhile, in March the same year, Cakap succeeded in securing funding from the Indonesia Impact Fund (IIF). These funds will be utilized to continue Cakap's expansion to increase access to quality education throughout the country.
In 2022 Cakap reached the age of three years. To commemorate it, Cakap cooperated with more than 13 universities in Indonesia to collaborate in improving the quality of its teaching materials and curricula. In the same year, Cakap opened its first branch, namely the Cakap Innovation Hub in Yogyakarta. Cakap was also acknowledged and included in the “Forbes Asia 100 to Watch 2022” list as the only Indonesian EdTech company for its efforts in addressing the real-world challenges.
In 2022, Tomy along with other Cakap leaders participated in the Indonesia Pavilion event at the 2022 World Economic Forum (WEF) which took place in Davos, Switzerland. Through this event, Cakap demonstrated its newest prototype, the Meta course, which combines metaverse technology and quality education to provide a more in-depth and optimal learning experience. This initiative is in line with Indonesia's G20 Presidency which focuses on national economic recovery. In addition, Tomy and Cakap also welcomed Gita Wirjawan, former Minister of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia, as a member of Cakap's commissioners as of August 2022.
Furthermore, Cakap reaches out broadly to the 3T areas (underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost). In addition, Cakap has also empowered more than 1,800 teaching staff from various regions in Indonesia and even Asia Pacific countries. Cakap continues to collaborate with more than 500 institutional and government clients with the aim of developing and advancing the nation through quality education.
Currently, more than 3 million users have succeeded in improving their skills in Mandarin, Korean, Japanese, English and Bahasa Indonesia as well as vocational skills with the help of 1,800 certified teachers who are parts of the Cakap platform. In the second quarter of 2023, Cakap received fresh funding from MDI ventures and Heritas Capital. This series C1 funding has given Cakap a valuation of more than USD 100 million. In the world of startups, companies with valuations between USD 100 million to USD 1 billion are called Centaurs, or one step below unicorns.
