Eigenmannia
Eigenmannia adalah sebuah genus ikan dalam famili Sternopygidae yang berasal dari Amerika Selatan tropis dan subtropis (ke selatan hingga Cekungan Río de la Plata), dan Panama.[1][2] Mereka umumnya ditemukan di aliran-aliran air yang tidak deras, di tepian sungai-sungai besar, di bagian dalam sungai dan di dataran banjir. Genus ini mencakup E. vicentespelaea, yang menjadi satu-satunya ikan pisau yang beradaptasi untuk hidup di gua.[2][3] Eigenmannia biasa ditemukan di dekat akar-akar tenggelam, tumbuhan air dan padang rumput apung.[3][4]

Tergantung spesiesnya, mereka memiliki panjang total maksimum 14,3–49,6 cm (6–20 in).[1] Mereka adalah hewan nokturnal, dan memakan invertebrata kecil seperti larva serangga air dan krustasea zooplankton.[3]
