Survive are an Indonesia alternative rock band from Cianjur. The band formed in August 2008. The band members are M. Murders (lead vocal), Zulqa Mahendra (lead guitar, backing vocal, keyboards), Abby Eka (bass), and The Nez (drums).
Band history
Inception and formation (2008-2010)
The band was formed on August 2008 in their school, Bina Nusantara Vocational High School, Cianjur, West Java. The founder are Abby Eka, Zulqa Mahendra lead guitar, Indra Sukmawijaya as rythmic guitars, and The Nez, but, they need a singer for their band, so, M. Murders propose-self as vocalist and join from the band. Upon its formation, only three members of the band, are M. Murders, Abby Eka, and The Nez, also took on a pseudonym which were already nicknames of theirs from high school. The name M. Murders and The Nez came up because he inspirate for his favorite singer and drummer, M. Shadows and The Rev from Avenged Sevenfold. The band used the name "Sevened" with a seven finger logo and "7eD" letter in their band logo flag, with original members M. Murders, Zulqa Mahendra, Indra Sukmawijaya, Abby Eka, and The Nez. The name of the band was found by Abby Eka, and agreed by M. Murders. In early 2009, Survive have as four member because Abby Eka and M. Murders agree for take Indra out from the band because the band only want one guitar player, is Zulqa Mahendra.
Actually, many friend of the school that play for rhythmic guitars since Indra is taked, are Fadillah, Ryan Aryanto, and most often now is Aditya Arya. And many friend of the school that play as singer and another castanets are Ahmad Faisal, Rudy Mulyadi, and Saepurrahman, but not often. Before this band has song, they always perfoming song from Muse band band, once in a while from Avenged Sevenfold and System of a Down band and another International band, once in a while from Indonesia famous band likes The Changcuters, d'Masiv, The Rock Indonesia, and the other band. But, the most often perfominged song from Muse band.
In July 2009, the name of the band change to Survive, make the song, and fix band game before they recording for first demo.
On 20 February 2010, the band was win the music parade with the title "Parade Musik Soulmatic Axis", with sponsored by Axis, as The Favorite Band, with performinged song from Muse, is Plug In Baby and Time Is Running Out. With that, the band to seriously with their plan for recording for they first demo album in this year. And they now looking for manager for their band.
Musical characteristics
Genre
Survive's primary genre are alternative jazz, pop-rock, rock, alternative metal and indie, but they also integrate parts of alternative rock and alternative metal, and try to R&B. The lead guitarist Survive, Zulqa Mahendra, talk with the vocalist M. Murders to try scream vocals and follow vocal lessons so that the vocal is skilled. M. Murders agree with follow vocal lessons, but may agree with scream vocal because him to soft-scream vocal style and try to unite voice kind soft-scream and hard-scream.
The lead guitarist, Zulqa Mahendra, also talk to another personnel to follow a lessons of music. Abby Eka follow guitar bass lessons, The Nez follow drum lessons. But, Zulqa not follow to guitar course, but follow piano lessons 'cause him will make a song with piano.
Band name
Before the name of the band is Survive, the band used name is Sevened, with a seven finger logo and "7eD" letter in their band logo flag, found by Abby Eka, and agreed by M. Murders. In midle of July, the name of the band change to Survive, with freak font "S", because the "S" like use the hat in up of that font. The name found by Zulqa Mahendra, inspiring for his favorite Japan-anime, One Piece.
