Deathlike Silence Productions

label rekaman

Deathlike Silence Productions was an Oslo, Norway based independent record label founded in the late 1980s. It was run by Euronymous, the former guitarist of the black metal band Mayhem, until he was murdered by Varg Vikernes of Burzum in 1993.

Vikernes never intended "Aske" to be released on DSP. He viewed Aarseth as somewhat incompetent since Aarseth had already made a mistake on Burzum's self-titled debut: on the DSP release, the second song appears as "Ea, Lord of the Deeps" instead of correct "Ea, Lord of the Depths".

It should be noted upon reviewing the first Burzum album, during "Ea, Lord of the Depths", Vikernes screams Ea Lord of the Deep over and over, it is listed in the lyrics as this as well, which may explain why Euronymous chose to list it as stated above.

Aarseth took the name from the Sodom song "Deathlike Silence" (from their 1986 release Obsessed by Cruelty). The label was actually located in the basement of his CD store Helvete (Norwegian for Hell) in Oslo. At first, the label signed only Norwegian black metal bands that were involved in anti-christian or evil activities. Later, Aarseth allowed bands from other countries to be signed, namely Abruptum and Merciless from Sweden and Sigh from Japan. However, all bands had to meet Aarseth's standards of "evilness".
