Pickup artists

Seduction community adalah sebuah subkultur dari self-help teachers dan laki-laki yang ingin mencapai sukses lebih besar dengan wanita melalui self-improvement dan pemahaman yang lebih baik akan psikologi sosial.[1] Subkultur ini biasanya diadakan melalui forum-forum internet dan kelompok-kelompok lokal, disebut "lairs".[2] Para pendukung subkultur ini biasanya menyebut mereka sendiri 'the community'[3] atau "pickup artists".

Seduction community banyak diliput oleh media massa, terutama setelah buku The Game oleh jurnalis dan pickup artist Neil Strauss (nicknamed "Style") mencapai New York Times' bestseller list. Strauss membandingkan kelompok ini dengan sebuah "men's self-help movement."[4]

Sejarah

Sejarah seduction community diawali dengan diterbitkannya buku karya Eric Weber pada 1970 berjudul How to Pick Up Girls.[5] Pada tahun 1980-an, dua California self-help gurus mulai menjual nasehat-nasehat mereka untuk bertemu dengan wanita menarik. Salah satunya adalah "R. Don Steele". Ia dipengaruhi oleh Ayn Rand dan membantu laki-laki di atas 35 tahun bertemu dengan wanita-wanita muda. Yang lainnya adalah Ross Jeffries, ia mendukung sejumlah teknik Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) yang disebut "Speed Seduction" (SS). Pada 1994, Lewis De Payne, saat itu murid Jeffries dan sahabat Kevin Mitnick, mendirikan newsgroup alt.seduction.fast ("ASF").[6] Hal ini memulai berbagai forum diskusi internet, mailing list, blog, dan situs-situs di mana teknik seduction dapat dipertukarkan.[7][8] Newsgroup alt.seduction.fast kemudian mendapat terlalu banyak spam sehingga sebuah kelompok bernama "Learn the Skills Corporation" mengembangkan sebuah alternatif lain dengan nama "Moderated ASF" (atau "mASF"), dengan jumlah anggota lebih dari 20,000.[9]
