Kejuaraan Dunia kategori pembalap dimenangkan oleh [[Jackie Stewart]] dan Piala Internasional untuk konstruktor diberikan kepada John Player Special Team lotus.
 
Dalam Kejuaraan Dunia, tim Lotus diperkuat oleh [[Emerson Fittipaldi]] dan [[Ronnie Peterson]] berlariberadu satu sama lain, sementara Jackie Stewart didukung oleh [[François Cevert]] di tim Tyrrell. [[Grand Prix Spanyol]] dipindahkan dari [[Circuito Permanente Del Jarama|Jarama]] dekat [[Madrid]] ke sirkuit jalanan [[Montjuïc]] di [[Barcelona]], sesuai dengan pengaturan pembagian acara antara kedua sirkuit tersebut.
 
[[Grand Prix Brasil]] menjadi tuan rumah Kejuaraan Dunia Grand Prix pertamanya pada tahun 1973. Perlombaan diadakan di [[Autódromo José Carlos Pace|Autodromo de Interlagos]] pada tanggal 11 Februari.
