Secara administratif, Qom adalah ibu kota ~~propinsi~~provinsi Qom yang menurut statistik [[1997]], jumlah penduduknya sekitar 44,850 jiwa; 16,91% tinggal di kota dan 82,8% tinggal di daerah pedesaan. Qum terletak di kawasan sahara tengah Iran. Posisinya yang berada di tengah padang yang gersang dan jauh dari laut, iklim Qom sangat kering dan memiliki curah hujan yang kecil.
