Amrita Sher-Gil
Amrita Sher-Gil (30 Januari 1913 – 5 Desember 1941) adalah seorang pelukis Hungaria-India. Dia telah disebut "salah satu seniman wanita avant-garde terbesar di awal abad ke-20" dan "pelopor" dalam seni India modern. Tertarik pada melukis sejak usia dini, Sher-Gil mulai mendapatkan pelajaran formal dalam seni, pada usia delapan tahun. Dia pertama kali mendapat pengakuan pada usia 19, untuknya lukisan cat minyak berjudul Gadis Muda (1932). Sher-Gil menggambarkan kehidupan sehari-hari masyarakat dalam lukisannya.[1][2]

Sher-Gil melakukan perjalanan sepanjang hidupnya ke berbagai negara termasuk Turki, Prancis, dan India, yang sangat diturunkan dari gaya seni India prakolonial dan budayanya saat ini. Sher-Gil dianggap sebagai pelukis penting India abad ke-20, yang warisannya sejajar dengan para pionir dari Renaisans Bengali. Dia juga seorang pembaca setia dan seorang pianis. Lukisan Sher-Gil termasuk yang paling mahal oleh pelukis wanita India saat ini, meskipun hanya sedikit yang mengakui karyanya ketika dia masih hidup.[3][4]
