Suku Batavi

Batavi adalah suku Jermanik kuno yang tinggal di wilayah delta Sungai Rhein di Belanda dari paruh kedua abad ke-1 SM hingga abad ke-3 M. Nama ini juga mengacu kepada beberapa satuan militer Romawi yang direkrut dari suku Batavi. Nama suku ini, yang kemungkinan berasal dari kata batawjō ("pulau bagus", dari bahasa Jermanik bat- "bagus," dan awjō "pulau, tanah dekat air"), yang mengacu kepada kesuburan kawasan tersebut.

Nasib

Suku ini masih disebutkan pada tahun 355 pada masa kekuasaan Konstantius II (317 - 361), tetapi pulau mereka sudah didominasi oleh suku Franka Sali.
