Kehidupan awal dan karier
suntingLahir di Atlanta, Georgia,[2] Lyon memasuki perfilman pada 1918 setelah tampil sukses pada Broadway bersama dengan Jeanne Eagels. Ia meraih sambutan dalam film yang sangat sukses Flaming Youth (1923), dan masih berkembang menjadi seorang pemeran utama. Ia paling sukses dipasangkan dengan beberapa aktris utama dari era film bisu yang meliputi Pola Negri, Gloria Swanson, Colleen Moore, Barbara La Marr, Viola Dana, Anna Q. Nilsson, Mary Astor dan Blanche Sweet.[3]
