English: In this photograph taken by Kusakabe Kimbei, eight women are pictured. Six of the women are playing traditional Japanese instruments, including the Samisen, Tsudzumi, Fuye and Taiko; the other two strike a pose. This photograph was originally a silver albumen print without color; color was added through hand-painting.
