Friedrich Hirth
Friedrich Hirth, Ph.D. (16 April 1845 di Gräfentonna, Saxe-Gotha – 10 Januari 1927 di Muenchen) adalah seorang ahli sinologi Jerman Amerika.[1]
Biografi
suntingDia menempuh pendidikan di universitas-universitas di Leipzig, Berlin, dan Greifswald (Ph.D., 1869). Dia berada di layanan bea cukai maritim Tiongkok dari 1870 sampai 1897. Pada tahun 1902, Profesor Hirth diangkat untuk jabatan guru besar bidang studi Tiongkok di Universitas Columbia (Kota New York).
Sebelum Perang Dunia II, koleksi naskah Tiongkok dan buku cetak yang dibuat oleh dia terdapat di Perpustakaan Kerajaan di Berlin, dan koleksi lainnya dari porselen yang cukup penting bersejarah di Museum Gotha; sebagian koleksi Hirth dari Staatsbibliothek di Berlin saat ini berada di Kraków.[2] Sebagai seorang peneliti, dia melakukan riset dalam kesusatraan Tiongkok melalui peniruan metode klasik filologi.
