Menurut jajak pendapat perkawinan sesama jenis di Australia, dukungan terhadap perkawinan sesama jenis telah meningkat dari 38% pada tahun 2004 menjadi lebih dari 50% semenjak tahun 2007. Sementara itu, sehubungan dengan perdebatan pengesahan perkawinan sesama jenis di Parlemen Australia pada tahun 2017, pemerintahan Turnbull memutuskan untuk mengadakan Survei Pos Hukum Perkawinan Australia untuk mengetahui secara pasti tingkat dukungan terhadap perkawinan sesama jenis.
