Joan Birman

Joan Sylvia Lyttle Birman (lahir 30 Mei 1927) adalah seorang matematikawan Amerika, yang mengkhususkan diri dalam teori braid dan teori ikatan. Bukunya, Braids, Links, and Mapping Class Groups, telah menjadi pengenalan standar, dengan beberapa peneliti masa sekarang mempelajari subyek tersebut melalui karya tersebut. Birman sekarang menjadi Research Professor Emerita di Barnard College, Columbia University, yang telah ia pegang sejak 1973.
