suntingSmith lahir di Anaheim, California. Ayahnya adalah Afrika-Amerika dan ibunya adalah keturunan Eropa. Dia anak kelima dari sembilan bersaudara.[1][2][3] Smith lulus dari Orange County School of the Arts pada 2013 dan telah tampil di pertunjukan sekitar Orange County.

suntingSmith came out sebagai queer dalam sebuah postingan Instagram pada 5 Juni 2020, dan mengatakan dia menjalin hubungan romantis dengan aktor Nicholas L. Ashe.[4][5]
