Kapal penjelajah lapis baja
Kapal penjelajah lapis baja adalah jenis kapal perang pada akhir abad ke-19 dan pada awal abad ke-20. Kapal itu dirancang seperti jenis kapal penjelajah lainnya untuk beroperasi sebagai kapal perang jarak jauh yang independen, yang mampu mengalahkan kapal apa pun selain kapal tempur dan cukup cepat untuk mengalahkan kapal perang apa pun yang dihadapinya. Dengan banyak variasi ukuran, kapal ini berbeda dari jenis penjelajah lainnya karena dilengkapi sabuk besi yang tebal (atau baja) yang melapisi sebagian besar lambung kapal untuk melindungi kapal dari tembakan seperti halnya di kapal perang lainnya. Kapal penjelajah lapis baja pertama, General-Admiral milik Angkatan Laut Kekaisaran Rusia, diluncurkan pada tahun 1873 dan menggabungkan daya dorong dari layar konvensional dan tenaga uap.
