Ciri-ciri fisik

  • Panjangnya bisa mencapai maksimal 50 cm (rata-rata 30 cm).
  • 10 duri dan 9 ruas pada sirip punggung serta 3 duri dan 8 ruas pada sirip dubur.
  • Sirip ekornya sedikit bercabang dengan ujung membulat.
  • Kepala dan tubuhnya berwarna merah atau coklat berkarat, lebih terang di bagian perut.
  • Memiliki garis putih lebar yang dimulai dari mata dan berakhir di ujung moncongnya.
  • Bibir dan pangkal sirip dada berwarna merah.
  • Siripnya kemerahan, seringkali terlihat merah cerah atau jingga.[2][3]

Ikan ini memakan echinodermata, moluska, krustasea dan ikan kecil.[2]

Habitat

Ikan ini menghuni daerah terumbu[4] di wilayah beriklim tropis (25°U-25°LS) dan hidup antara kedalaman 2 dan 25 m.[2][5]

Ikan ini tidak berbahaya bagi manusia dan dijual dalam keadaan segar.[2]
