Lateen

Lateen (dari kata Prancis latine, artinya "Latin") atau latin-rig adalah sebuah layar segitiga yang dipasang di yard panjang yang ditempatkan pada sudut mast, dan bergerak dalam pengarahan fore-and-aft.

Aslinya dipasang di kapal layar, layar lateen sekarang dipakai dengan bentuk yang sangat berbeda pada perahu-perahu kecil seperti Sunfish yang sangat populer.

Bermula dari navigasi Romawi, lateen menjadi layar favorit pada Abad Penemuan, utamanya karena membolehkan perahu untuk bergerak "melawan angin". Layar tersebut menjadi hal umum di Laut Tengah, hulu Sungai Nil dan bagian barat laut dari Samudra Hindia
