N. T. Wright

Nicholas Thomas ("Tom") Wright (lahir 1 Desember 1948) adalah seorang sarjana Perjanjian Baru terkemuka dan pensiunan uskup Gereja Anglikan asal Inggris. Dalam lingkungan akademia, ia menggunakan nama N. T. Wright dalam penerbitan karyanya, tetapi di luar itu lebih dikenal sebagai Tom Wright. Di antara sarjana Perjanjian Baru modern, Wright merupakan pendukung penting pandangan tradisional mengenai hal-hal teologi termasuk kebangkitan jasmaniah Kristus dan kedatangan Kristus yang kedua. Masa muda

Wright dilahirkan di Morpeth, Northumberland. Dalam sebuah wawancara pada tahun 2003, ia mengatakan tidak pernah ingat satu saatpun di mana ia tidak merasakan kehadiran dan kasih Allah serta mengingat suatu peristiwa ketika ia berusia empat atau lima tahun sewaktu "duduk sendirian di Morpeth dan menjadi sangat terliputi, sampai menangis, oleh kenyataan bahwa Allah mencintaiku sedemikian sehingga Ia mati untukku. Ia belajar pada Sedbergh School, waktu itu di Yorkshire, Wright mengkhususkan diri pada pelajaran sastra klasik. Dari tahun 1968 sampai 1971, ia belajar literae humaniores (atau "sastra klasik", termasuk filsafat dan sejarah) pada Exeter College, Oxford, meraih gelar BA dengan penghargaan kelas satu pada tahun 1971. Selama itu ia menjadi presiden "undergraduate Oxford Inter-Collegiate Christian Union". Pada tahun 1973 ia meraih gelar BA dalam teologi dengan penghargaan kelas satu dari Exeter.

Karier

Pada tahun 1975 ia menjadi junior research fellow pada Merton College, Oxford dan kemudian juga kapelan junior. Pada tahun 2003, ia menjadi Bishop of Durham. Pada tanggal 4 Agustus 2006 ia dilantik menjadi anggota Court of Ecclesiastical Causes Reserved untuk masa jabatan 5 tahun.
