Karena kapalnya tidak selalu digunakan oleh nelayan, tapi juga pelaku pemancingan rekreasi. Selain itu, buruh dan pelaku penangkapan ikan dari industri perikanan yang besar sudah jarang disebut sebagai nelayan. Saat ini istilah nelayan konotasinya adalah pelaku penangkapan ikan tradisional. Saya pernah menghadiri seminar teman saya mengenai kampung nelayan di Sumatera Barat, definisi nelayan sudah bergeser menjadi "pemilik kapal" dan "buruh nelayan". Sama halnya seperti istilah "petani" dan "buruh tani". Masyarakat cenderung mengartikan buruh tani sebagai petani, padahal buruh tani bukan pemilik tanah. Kiranya kapal nelayan merangkupi kapal nelayan rekreasi? Nelayan erti penangkap ikan, tidak kira full/part time/rekreasi. Sekadar ingin tahu untuk pertimbangkan di MS. Yosri (bicara) 8 Oktober 2013 13.00 (UTC)

In Indonesia, recreational fisher isn't always called "nelayan". Nelayan is an occupation. Hysocc, Let's talk 8 Oktober 2013 18.26 (UTC)
