Mungkin ada yang tahu dari mana muncul subspesies Panthera pardus sondaicus. Kenapa Panthera pardus sondaicus diterjemahkan sebagai macan tutul jawa. Sedangkan Panthera pardus melas diterjemahkan sebagai macan tutul kumbang?.

Barangkali itu variasi sinonimi. Tidak perlu bingung, fokus saja ke hasil studi terakhir (yang sudah dirinci itu, makanya cantumkan rujukannya; btw, mnrt Uphyrkina et al 2001, cuma sembilan subspesies). Mengenai P.p. sondaicus, dijadikan catatan kaki pada P.p. melas saja, namanya hanya muncul di pustaka2 indonesia, barangkali akibat penggunaan rujukan lama atau kekacauan dengan P. tigris sondaica (harimau jawa).
