Hampir semua bahasa-bahasa lain menggunakan kata Yemen (coba lihat di tabel kiri), mengapa bahasa Indonesia pakai Yaman? bennylin 03:49, 26 Mei 2007 (UTC)

Menurut hipotesa saya, karena kata tersebut diserap bahasa Indonesia/Melayu langsung dari bahasa Arab, yang pembacaannya adalah "al-Yaman" (hurufnya alif-lam-ya-mim-nun). Penulisan "Yemen" umumnya oleh/melalui bahasa-bahasa Eropa. Salam, Naval Scene 19:36, 20 Juli 2007 (UTC)

Iseng-iseng saya buka beberapa Wikipedia dengan yang menggunakan huruf Arab: Arab, Misri (Arab Mesir), Farsi, Urdu. Kebanyakan menggunakan nama al-y-m-n atau Y-m-n. (alif-ya-mim-nun atau ya-mim-nun). Ini umumnya dibaca "(al-) Yaman", tapi tergantung logat setempat saya kira bisa dibaca "yemen" juga. Tapi setahu saya bahasa Arab yang dikenal di Indonesia tidak mengenal bunyi "e" (pepet maupun taling), jadi bacanya "Yaman". Gombang (bicara) 17:34, 25 Maret 2010 (UTC)
