Penyu hewan purbakala sudah mendiami bumi sejak Triassic sekitar 220 juta tahun yang lalu. Indonesia, dengan 6 dari 7 spesies penyu yang ada di dunia, memegang peranan penting dalam upaya konservasi spesies dilindungi ini. Penyu saat ini diambang kepunahan disebabkan oleh aktivitas manusia yang tidak ramah lingkungan seperti pembangunan kawasan pantai yang merusak tempat perteluran penyu; perburuan penyu; pencurian telur; penangkapan tidak sengaja (by-catch) oleh nelayan udang dan tuna; dan pembuangan sampah di pantai dan laut. Reproduksi penyu yang sangat lambat tidak mampu mengimbangi laju populasi yang menurun drastis.
Dalam rangka ikut mengajak melestarikan kekayaan alam ini Direktorat Jenderal Pos dan Telekomunikasi menerbitkan prangko istimewa seri Kehidupan Bawah Laut pada tanggal 24 Oktober 2010 dan menampilkan 4 jenis penyu :
- Penyu lekang atau biasa disebut juga penyu abu-abu merupakan salah satu jenis yang berukuran kecil selain penyu sisik. Penyu jenis ini mengonsumsi udang-udangan.
- Penyu hijau adalah penyu terbesar di antara penyu lainnya yang memiliki karapas keras di punggungnya. Penyu hijau juga bermigrasi ribuan kilometer dari ruaya pakan menuju pantai penelurannya. Penyu hijau bermigrasi dari daerah pesisir selatan Pulau Jawa menuju ke pesisir barat Benua Australia dan pesisir utara Benua Australia, dari Indonesia ke Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, dan Filipina, dan Papua Nugini.
- Penyu Belimbing merupakan spesies yang terbesar di antara jenis lainnya. Sangat unik karena merupakan satu-satunya spesies penyu yang tidak memiliki karapas keras, hanya berupa kulit yang tebal. Namun bentuk penyu belimbing yang aerodinamis membuat mereka dapat menyelam lebih dalam dan bermigrasi lebih jauh.
- Penyu sisik adalah satu-satunya penyu yang memiliki motif eksotis di karapasnya. Motif eksotis ini seringkali menjadi pilihan utama industri aksesoris dan busana dalam produksi pernak-pernik kacamata, bros, kancing, gelang, kalung, dan lain-lain. Selain itu, daging dan telur penyu sisik juga menjadi incaran masyarakat.

PEDULI LINGKUNGAN 2009
Ditetapkan dalam siding umum PBB tahun 1972 untuk menandai pembukaan Konferensi Lingkungan Hidup di Stockholm, Hari Lingkungan Hidup se-Dunia diperingati pada tanggal 5 juni. Hari Lingkungan Hidup se-Dunia merupakan instrument penting yang digunakan PBB untuk meningkatkan kesadaran tentang lingkungan dan mendorong perhatian dan tindakan politik di tingkat dunia. Sebagai milik seluruh masyarakat, hari peringatan ini memberi kesempatan kepada semua orang untuk menjadi bagian aksi global dalam menyuarakan proteksi terhadap planet kita, pemanfaatan sumber daya alam yang berkelanjutan serta gaya hidup yang ramah lingkungan.
Dengan tema yang disadur menjadi “Bersama Selamatkan Bumi dari Perubahan Iklim”, peringatan Hari Lingkungan Hidup di tingkat global dipusatkan di Mexico City. Meksiko terpilih menjadi tuan rumah sebagai penghargaan atas peranannya yang makin meningkat dalam memerangi perubahan iklim serta partisipasinya dalam pasar bahan baker. Negara ini memberikan komitme sebesar 25 persen dari seluruh pohon yang ditanam dalam rangka program Kampanye Sejuta Pohon dari UNEP.
Peringatan Hari Lingkungan Hidup se-Dunia pada tahun ini juga ditandai dengan prakarsa ”Kesepakatan Baru Hijau” sebagai solusi terhadap merosotnya keuangan dunia serta pemanasan global dengan merangsang peningkatan investasi untuk sumber energi yang dapat diperbarui infrastruktur ekosistem serta proses produksi yang hemat energi. Kesepakatan ini diyakini tidak hanya akan menciptakan lapangan kerja baru serta menjalin proses pemulihan, namun sekaligus akan membantu pemecahan masalah pemanasan global. Investasi dalam paket stimulus ekonomi hijau baru yang subsansial akan dapat merubah krisis hari ini menjadi pertumbuhan yang berkelanjutan di masa mendatang.
Dalam rangka turut memperingati peristiwa internasional ini di Indonesia, pada tanggal 5 Juni 2009 diterbitkan prangko ser Peduli Lingkungan. Desain prangko menampilkan karya pemenang Lomba Desain Prangko Nasional 2008 yang dibuat oleh Howard Julio T. (Jakarta), Ranggi Prthita (Yogyakarta), dan Edi Jatmiko (Yogyakarta).

Persyarikatan Muhammadiyah didirikan oleh K.H Ahmad Dahlan dikampung Kuman Yogyakarta pada tanggal 8 Dzulhijah 1330 H/18 November 1912. Persyarikatan Muhammadiyah didirikan untuk mendukung usaha K.H Ahmad Dahlan dalam memurnikan ajaran Islam yang dianggap banyak dipengaruhi hal-hal mistik. Kegiatan ini pada awalnya juga memiliki basis dakwah untuk wanita dan kaum muda berupa pengajian Sidratul Muntaha. Selain itu peran dalam pendidikan diwujudkan dalam pendirian sekolah dasar dan Sekolah Dasar dan Sekolah Lanjutan, yang dikenal sebagai Hooge School Muhammadiyah dan selanjutnya berganti nama menjadi Kweek School Muhammadiyah, sekarang dikenal dengan Madrasah Mu’Alimin khusus laki-laki, yang bertempat di Patangpuluhan Kecamatan Wirobrajan dan Mu’allimaat Muhammadiyah khususnya perempuan, di Suronatan Yogyakarta.
Pada masa kepemimpinan Ahmad Dahlan (1912 – 1923), Pengaruh Muhammadiyah terbatas disekitar Yogya. Pada tahun 1925, Abdul Karim Amrullah membawa Muhammadiyah ke Sumatera Barat dengan membuka cabang di Sungai Batang Agam. Dalam tempo yang relative singkat, arus gelombang Muhammadiya telah menyebar ke seluruh ke seluruh Sumatera Barat dan dari daerah inilah kemudian Muhammadiyah bergerak keseluruh Sumatera, Sulawesi, dan Kalimantan. Pada tahun 1938, Muhammadiyah telah tersebar ke seluruh Indonesia.
Tujuan utama Muhammadiyah adalah mengembalikan seluruh penyimpangan yang terjadi dalam proses dakwah. Penyimpangan ini sering menyebabkan ajarin Islam bercampur baur dengan kebiasaan didaerah tertentu dengan alas an adaptasi.
Gerakan Muhammadiyah bercirikan semangat membangun tata social dan pendidikan masyarakat yang lebih maju dan terdidik. Menampikan ajarin Islam bukan sekadar agama yang bersifat pribadi dan statis, tetapi dinamis dan berkedudukan sebagai system kehidupan manusia dalam segala aspeknya. Akan tetapi, ia juga menampilkan kecenderungan untuk melakukan perbuatan yang ekstrem.
Selama satu abad Persyarikatan Muhammadiyah telah dipimpin oleh 14 Ketua Umum, yaitu : KH Ahmad Dahlan (1912 – 1923); KH Ibrahim (1923 – 1932); KH Hisyam (1932 – 1936); KH Mas Mansyur (1936 – 1942); Ki Bagoes Hadi Kusumo (1942 – 1953); Buya AR Sutan Mansur (1953 – 1959); HM Yunus Anis (1959 – 1962); KH Ahmad Badawi (1962 – 1968); KH Faqih Usman (1968 – 1971); KH AR Fahruddin (1971 – 1990); KHA Azhar Basyir (1990 – 1995); Amien Rais (1995 – 2000); Syafii Ma’arif (2000 – 2005); Din Syamsudin (2005 – Sekarang).

Republik Indonesia adalah negara kepulauan yang terdiri tidak kurang dari 17.508 pulau besar dan kecil yang membentang dengan panjang 5.110 km. Secara geografis Indonesia terletak pada posisi yang sangat strategis, yaitu antara Benua Asia dan Australia serta Samudra Hindia dan Pasifik. Pulau-pulau tersebut terhubung oleh laut dan selat yang merupakan wilayah laut nasional dengan luas perairan sekitar 5,8 juta km2 seta panjang pantai 79.610 km.
Indonesia memiliki 92 pulau terluar yang memiliki titik pangkal yang berbatasan dengan 10 negara tetangga, yaitu Asutralia, Malaysia, Singapura, India, Thailand, Vietnam, Fillipina, Palau, Papua Nugini dan Timor Leste. Pulau-pulau itu tersebar di 9 provinsi yang sebagian besar terdapat di kepulauan Riau dan Maluku. Setengah dari pulau-pulau tersebut berpenghuni dengan luas pulau antara 0,02-2000 km2.
Sebagai salah satu upaya sosialisasi keberadaan pulau-pulau kecil terluar dalam rangka menjaga keutuhan wilayaj Republik Indonesia, Direktorat Jenderal Pos dan Telekomunikasi, Departemen Komunikasi dan Teknologi Informasi Republik Indonesia menerbitkan prangko seri Pulau-pulau kecil Terluar bertepatan pada peringatan Hari Nusantara yang jatuh pada tanggal 13 Desember 2008. Prangko seri ini menampilkan 4 pulau tersebut, yaitu Damar, Sebatik, Batubawaikang dan Bras.
- Pulau Damar atau masyarakat menyebutnya Tokongatap termasuk gugusan Kepulauan Anambas yang terletak di laut Natunadan berbatasan dengan Malaysia. Pulau ini berupa batuan besar yang kokoh dan bertebing curam. Perairan di sekitarnya bergelombang besar apabila terjadi musim utara. Pada sore hari, pulau ini dijadikan tempat persinggahan burung walet. Secara administratif pulau ini terletak di kecamatan Jemaja, Kabupaten Natuna, Provinsi Kepulauan Riau. Selain kaya sumber daya perikanan, perairan sekitar Pulau Damar juga menjadi lokasi tempat tenggelamnya 4 buah kapal yang membawa barang-barang bernilai sejarah tinggi . Beberapa hal yang harus dilakukan dalam upaya menjaga Pulau Damar antara lain adalah rekonstruksi dan pemeliharaan titik dasar dan titik referensi, peningkatan pengawasan oleh aparat keamanan untuk menjaga kedaulatannya, serta perlu pemeliharaan sarana bantu navigasi pelayaran.
- Pulau sebatik memiliki wilayah yang terbagi menjadi 2 bagian, sebagian merupakan daerah wilayah Indonesia dan sebagian masuk wilayah Malaysia. Pulau Sebatik termasuk dalam wilayah administratif Kecamatan Sebatik, yaitu kecamatan paling timur di kabupaten Nunukan, Provinsi Kalimantan Timur. Kecamatan Sebatik terdiri dari empat desa, yaitu Tanjung Karang, Pancang, Sungai Nyamuk Tanjung Aru dan Setabu. Pulau ini secara umum beriklim panas dengan suhu udara rata-rata 27,8 oC, suhu terendah 22,9 oC pada bulan agustus dan tertinggi 33,0 oC pada bulan April. Pulau ini merupakan salah satu pulau terluar yang menjadi prioritas utama pembangunan karena perbatasan langsung dengan negara tetangga. Program utama yang perlu dilakukan di Pulau Sebatik antara lain adalah pembangunan sektor pertanian, perkebunan, perikanan dan pariwisata serta pengingkatan hukum dan pengawasan keamanan.
- Pulau Batubawaikan merupakan salah satu pulau paling ujung di sebelah utara Sulawesi yang berbatasan lagnsung dengan Fillipina. Pulau ini terletak di sebelah utara Pulau Sangihe dan di sebelah timur laut Pulau Marore. Pulau yang berbentuk bongkahan batu menjulang dan ditumbuhui oleh vegetasi ini termasuk dalam gugusan Kepulauan Kawio. Pulau Batubawaikang termasuk dalam wilayah Kecamatan Tabukan Utara, Kabupaten Sangihe, Provinsi Sulawesi Utara. Keadaan cuaca di wilayah Batubawaikang tidak menentu dan sering berubah-ubah. Pada saat musim angin utara, kecepatan angin bisa mencapai 40 mil/jam dan menyebabkan gelombang besar, sehingga kapal besar pun tidak mampu melewati perairan ini.
- Pulau Bras merupakan gugusan dari Kepulauan Mapia yang berbatasan dengan Republik Palau. Jarak antara Pulau Bras dengan Pulau Babelthuap (Republik Palau) adalah sejauh 390 mil. Gugusan Kepulauan Mapia terdiri dari 5 buah pulau, yaitu Mapia atau Pegun, Bras atau Berasi, Bras Kecil, Fanildo atau Faniroto dan Fanildo Kecil. Wilayah gugusan pulau ini dijaga oleh satuan TNI yang memiliki pos di Pulau Mapia. Pulau Bras termasuk dalam wilayah administrasi Distrik Supiori Barat, Kabupaten Supiori, Provinsi Papua. Tingginya keanekaragaman diota laut dan masih terpeliharanya ekosistem yang ada di Kepulauan Mapia memberikan peluang pengembangan industri wisata baik wisata alam, budaya dan peninggalan sejarah Perang Dunia II.
