Filsafat perenial

Filsafat perenial (Latin: philosophia perennis), yang juga disebut Perenialisme, adalah sebuah sudut pandang dalam filsafat agama yang meyakini bahwa setiap agama di dunia memiliki suatu kebenaran yang tunggal dan universal yang merupakan dasar bagi semua pengetahuan dan doktrin religius.

Gagasan perenialisme sudah ada sejak zaman kuno dan dapat ditemui dalam berbagai agama dan filsafat dunia. Istilah philosophia perennis pertama kali digunakan oleh Agostino Steuco (1497–1548), yang mendasarkannya dari tradisi filosofis yang sebelumnya sudah ada, yaitu dari Marsilio Ficino (1433–1499) dan Giovanni Pico della Mirandola (1463–94).

Pada akhir abad ke-19, gagasan ini dipopulerkan oleh pemimpin Masyarakat Teosofis seperti H. P. Blavatsky dan Annie Besant dengan nama "Kebijaksanaan-Agama" atau "Kebijaksanaan Kuno". Pada abad ke-20, gagasan ini dipopulerkan di negara-negara berbahasa Inggris oleh Aldous Huxley dengan bukunya The Perennial Philosophy, dan juga tulisan dari sekelompok pemikir yang kini dikenal dengan nama Mazhab Tradisionalis.

Sudut pandang ini bertentangan dengan saintisme dalam masyarakat sekuler modern. Salah satu penafsiran populer tentang perenialisme juga mendukung universalisme, gagasan bahwa semua agama, di bawah perbedaan yang tampak, sebenarnya menunjuk pada Kebenaran yang sama. Pada awal abad ke-19, kaum Transendentalis menyebarkan gagasan tentang kebenaran metafisik dan universalisme, mengilhami kaum Unitarian yang berdakwah di kalangan elit India. Menjelang akhir abad ke-19, Perhimpunan Teosofi semakin mempopulerkan universalisme, tidak hanya di dunia barat, tetapi juga di koloni barat. Pada abad ke-20, universalisme dipopulerkan lebih lanjut melalui Aliran Tradisionalis yang diilhami Advaita Vedanta, yang mendukung asal muasal agama-agama ortodoks yang metafisik, dan oleh Aldous Huxley dan bukunya The Perennial Philosophy, yang diilhami oleh neo-Vedanta dan aliran Tradisionalis.
