Universal (metafisika)
Dalam metafisika, universal adalah hal tertentu yang menjadi umum, dalam hal ini karakteristik dan kualitas. Dalam kata lain, universal adalah entitas berulang atau timbul kembali yang dapat diinstansiasi atau dicontohkan oleh beberapa hal tertentu.[1] Contohnya, dua kursi yang ditempatkan di sebuah ruangan, yang sama-sama berwarna hijau. Dua kursi tersebut sama-sama berbagi kualitas dari "sifat kursi", serta sifat dari warna hijau atau kualitas dari warna hijau; dalam kata lain, mereka berbagi "universal". Terdapat tiga jenis utama dari kualitas atau karakteristik; tipe atau jenis (contoh mamalia), properti (contoh pendek, kuat), dan relasi (contoh, ayah dari, bersebelahan dengan). Ini adalah semua jenis universal yang berbeda.[2]
